This weeks painting adventure is along the Stonycreek River in Somerset County, PA.
I’m working on letting go of my dependence on realism. It’s continuing to be a challenge.

Off to a good start- painting the energy and heat of the rocks and the river that scattered them.

Late afternoon light was shining on golden rock slabs. I trying to keep the energy while including more definition of light & dark. This feels almost done.

This day the light is subdued and the river higher. I attempt to add I dimension and spaciousness. But once again i think I over-did it. Nailed it down too much and lost the free flying energy of its beginning.
It needs something more but it’s close to complete. So I’ll stare at it for a few days and listen to what it wants.
Next time, I need to find a way to stay conscious all the way through the whole cycle. And keep more of the spark I see in the earlier stages.
