Ready to Grow? Already Growing.

Harshness vanished. A sudden softness
has replaced the meadows’ wintry grey.
Little rivulets of water changed
their singing accents. Tendernesses,
hesitantly, reach toward the earth
from space, and country lanes are showing
these unexpected subtle risings
that find expression in the empty trees.

Rainer Maria Rilke

We’ve arrived at the midpoint of celestial winter. Imbolc, Candlemas, St. Brigid’s day, Groundhog Day. Lunar New Year — all honor the shift from midwinter darkness to the brighter days of late winter and the promise of spring. Although the snow may still lie heavy on the land, roots and seeds are stirring under the soil, making ready for the growth to come.

The investments we made during winter retreat are stirring underground. When we let go into the Yule fire, when we set our intentions at New Year, we were planting seeds. By now, these seeds have set roots. Those young roots are seeking the in-between spaces, spreading out for stability, and drawing strength and nourishment from the earth. They are preparing to build your intentions into the visible, tangible world.

Like the groundhog, it’s almost time to come out of your burrow. To cast off the safety of hibernation, feel those unexpected subtle risings, and step into change.

Brigid’s Grace, from Luka Bloom. “Don’t be afraid of the Light that shines within you.”
